“If you’re lost and alone
Or you’re sinking like a stone
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
On Thursday I did a 4 mile run with my son in the stroller at Fish Creek Park. I have concluded two things (1) I need a new stroller and (2) I need a new running bra. It was a tough run for the first few km. I started at the base of a really steep hill and was basically walking because it was faster. Felix was an awesome companion – he smiles and waved to people as he ate his “gold Bish” and sipped on apple juice. At one point he even put his feet up on the bars and looked quite comfortable. The temperature was really nice, with a good breeze. It wasn’t a terribly fast run (I can’t find the stats but I believe I was running a 6:35 min/km?) But I finished!
Today I ran my long run. I had planned to do 10 miles, but ended up doing 9.3. I was tired and left late today, so by the time I was nearing the end of my run it was warmer than I expected; I just couldn’t push myself any further. But it is a gorgeous day out there (much nicer than the rain we were supposed to get). I ran along the river to downtown, crossed one of the suspension bridges (scary as heck) and came back. I knew at the 8km mark that I was getting tired. I took a shot of gatorade and water and kept going. Again at 11km I took another shot and so on until I finished. There were many times I wanted to quit before getting back to the truck but I kept thinking of the line “lean in.” So I started repeating it to myself. I was getting discouraged by my time (I got down as slow as 7 min/km because I wasn’t pushing it) but I kept going. There were loads of people out today: dog walkers, roller bladers, bikers, runners – everyone was enjoying the heat and sun. There were loads of guys running without shirts on. I laughed to myself thinking how startled they would be if they met a chick running through the trail without a shirt on (sans bra)… I am sure they thought I was going nutty with dehydration (maybe I was?)
Anyway, I am super pleased to be done my run for the day. A tad disappointed it wasn’t as long as I had planned but proud of myself for finishing nonetheless.
Here are the stats:
