How to stay warm while running?
Remember your mitts.
Okay, so maybe I’m being a little over dramatic, but it was cold yesterday. I wore layers and my retro running jacket, but forgot mitts. I got about five minutes in and thought, I should just turnaround and go get them, but decided to tuck my hands into my jacket and keep going. It was the kind of evening where it took more energy to breath and it felt really cold on my lungs (whether it was, or just my imagination). It was slippery; there was snow on the ground and ice in patches everywhere. And of course, yesterday was also a really busy day. I had about an hour to run, get into my Halloween costume and get my son ready before heading over to a friends. Of course, this would be the day that my legs would feel so heavy that I felt like I couldn’t run any faster. Honestly, keeping a pace of 6:30 per km was a real challenge when weeks ago I was running short distances at 5:30-5:45 per km but I got it down to a comfortable 5:56. It was a tad discouraging, but I know that every run won’t be terrific, so I’m just happy I finished it under thirty minutes.
It was neat to run through the neighbourhood and see all the kiddies dressed up. They’re pretty tough to get out in sub zero weather for some treats, but I guess I probably would have been the same. I’m posting a picture of him in his costume. Which, by the way, he hated. I loved it though. He was so cute.
Anyway, enough rambling.
