Rest day, but with a heavy heart.

Today was a rest day and although I’m grateful for it, I could have done with a run.┬áLike most of the world, I was shocked and horrified by the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.

he heals the broken hearted and binds up their woundsEven for me, there’s not a whole lot to say on a day like this; I’ve spent most of it with a heavy heart, feeling helpless thinking of people 4000 km away going through what can only be described as hell-on-earth. As a mother, I can’t tell you the agony I felt watching the news as everything unfolded (and as I write this, my eyes are filled with tears). I feel a hole in my heart knowing that innocent children just a few years older than my son were taken so brutally and mercilessly; the heartache seems unbearable. I’m ┬ájust in disbelief.

It wasn’t long ago that I was an au pair in a small community in New York and spent a lot of time with family in CT. It sure hits home in many ways; and it’s the sort of thing that isn’t even the plot of our scariest horror movies. It’s something that you couldn’t even think of, let alone prepare for… so…

To the families, friends and community of Newtown, CT:

Please accept my deepest, most sincere condolences on the lives that were lost today and also for the lives that will be forever changed as a result of the spineless actions of Adam Lanza. I pray that you’ll find strength and comfort in one-another. And as President Obama so eloquently stated, “May God bless the memory of the victims and, in the words of Scripture, heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.”
